Our Technology
Indoor farming has many benefits
Resiliency to climate, trade, and supply chain disruptions
One-tenth of the land use needed by open-field agriculture
Potential to eliminate water waste and waterway pollution
Protection from pests and other contaminants
But its impact has been limited
Consumers pay premiums while producers struggle with profitability
Operation is restricted to specific crops and mild climates
Carbon footprint increases with use of A/C, lighting, and automation
Our energy breakthrough will make Controlled Environment Agriculture environmentally and economically sustainable in any climate.
A natural solution to food security
We set out to engineer efficient temperature control in a sealed greenhouse and found inspiration in Earth’s energy balance: where interactions between the sun, the water cycle, and large bodies of water create natural heating and cooling effects. Similar elements are adopted in the design of our All-Climate Greenhouse to maintain a stable microclimate at minimal cost.
Water is well-known as the ideal material for thermal energy storage. In theory, a large mass of water inside a greenhouse should be able to keep the temperature stable through fluctuations in outside conditions. But until now, nobody has found a practical way to implement this solution at scale.
Rimaco Greens is the first to harness the power of water inside a commercial-sized sealed greenhouse in a way that is secure, space-efficient, flexible, and affordable.
No longer a theory but a proven feat of ingenuity
The hydrologic greenhouse is the first of its kind to be able to cool a sealed, translucent space without A/C, store solar energy naturally for later use, and recover all evaporated and plant-transpired water, making it the most sustainable farming method on the market today. Its simple construction and low-maintenance materials make overhead and operating costs accessible, and its protection from external conditions means it has built-in pest protection and can function anywhere.
